Love’Em or Lose’Em: Getting Good People to Stay has sharpened our IT leaders’ awareness of the costs of losing talent, the benefits associated with retention-focused management strategies, and the absolute necessity of winning the war for talent. We saw an immediate increase in the degree of active responsibility taken by many of our managers to retain our key employees.”

Prior to earning a doctorate at UCLA, Dr. Kaye did graduate work in organization development at MIT Sloan School of Management and has taught executive seminars at UCLA and USC.

Bev has spent years researching corporate strategies for developing, retaining and engaging knowledge workers. Her book, Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em: Getting Good People to Stay, (Berrett-Koehler, 1999), co-authored with Sharon Jordan-Evans, has sold over 250,000 copies, is printed in 14 languages and has reached Wall Street Journal and Amazon best seller status. Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em provides 26 simple strategies (A-Z) that any manager can implement today. In the new, revised edition, (Berrett-Koehler, 2002), Kaye and Jordan-Evans take a look at retention and engagement as two sides of the same coin. Their new book, Love It, Don’t Leave It: Get What You Want Where You Are, is the employee guide for increasing engagement and retention, and will be published Fall, 2003 by Berrett-Koehler, San Francisco, CA.

In the early ‘80’s, Dr. Kaye first published her now classic book, Up Is NOT The Only Way (revised, Davies-Black, 1997), which foresaw the effects of leaner and flatter organizations on individual careers. During the last decade, she has worked with a host of organizations to establish systems to help their employees grow and develop when “up” has been impossible. At the same time, she has been a strong proponent of the need for employees to manage their own careers, rather than leaving career management to employers. Designing Career Development Systems, Jossey-Bass, was another classic book co-authored by Dr. Kaye in 1986. Learning Journeys, Davies-Black, 2001, edited by Dr. Kaye, is a collection of essays from top management experts. It offers rich lessons on learning to lead, overcoming setbacks, remaining open to change, mentoring, developing self-awareness and more.

Dr. Kaye has received many honors and awards, including the National Career Development Award of the American Society for Training and Development. She has also received the ASTD Best Practice Award for work with clients: Bechtel, Chevron, Dow Corning, and First USA.
